Sum rule for thermal conductivity and dynamical thermal transport coefficients in condensed matter
نویسنده
چکیده
We display an interesting sum rule for the dynamical thermal conductivity for many standard models of condensed matter in terms of the expectation of a thermal operator. We present the thermal operator for several model systems of current interest, which enable an evaluation of the sum rule and the Lorentz number, the thermoelectric figure of merit as well as the thermopower at high frequencies. As a by-product, we present exact formulas for the T=0 chemical potential 0 for charged many-body systems, including the Hubbard model, in terms of expectation values of extensive operators. Simple estimates are provided for the thermopower of an infinitely correlated band model on the triangular lattice, modeling the physics of the sodium cobalt oxide system. The present result goes beyond the Heikes-Mott formula for the thermopower, and contains an additional transport correction that is sensitive to the lattice topology as well as the sign of hopping.

متن کاملTransport functions for hypercubic and Bethe lattices
In calculations of transport quantities, such as the electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, Seebeck, Peltier, Nernst, Ettingshausen, Righi-Leduc, or Hall coefficients, sums over the Brillouin zone of wave-vector derivatives of the dispersion relation commonly appear. When the self-energy depends only on frequency, as in single-site dynamical mean-field theory, it is advantageous to perf...
متن کاملRelaxation and Thermal Conductivity of Hot and Thermal Quasiparticles and Fermi Liquid Interactions in d-wave Superconductors
In this paper, we calculate theoretically the relaxation rates of hot, thermal and antinodal quasiparticles by using Fermi’s golden rule. The transition probabilities at low temperatures express in terms of Bogoliubov coefficients, singlet and triplet scattering amplitudes and dimensionless Landau parameters. The values of Landau parameters may be determined by comparison with the experimental ...
متن کاملThermoelectric properties of an ultra-thin topological insulator.
Thermoelectric coefficients of an ultra-thin topological insulator are presented here. The hybridization between top and bottom surface states of a topological insulator plays a significant role. In the absence of a magnetic field, the thermopower increases and thermal conductivity decreases with an increase in the hybridization energy. In the presence of a magnetic field perpendicular to the u...
متن کاملThermal conductivity behavior of boron carbides.
Knowledge of the thermal conductivity of boron carbide is necessary o evaluate its potential for high temperature thermoelectric energy conversion applications. We have measured the thermal diffusivity of hot -pressed boron carbide B1_xCx samples as a function of composition (0.1 < x < 0.2), temperature (300 K to 1700 K) and temperature cycling. These data in concert with density and specific h...
